* 50 clues - GRAMMAR *

Libreria AVALON 2000

This book has not been written to compete either with school-textbooks, neither with SPANISH GRAMMAR books of 500 or 800 pages, aimed at University students and teachers.

This is a work directed to students and/or teachers of Primary and Secondary schools who wish to have compiled in 1 volume the numerous RULES and EXCEPTIONS - concerning Morphology and Syntax - which are "scattered" along the more than eighty lessons that may include studies of Primary and Secondary courses.

Due to the book format and number of pages this GRAMMAR provides EASY handling.

The structure and summary tables will be EASY to understand and memorize.

Because of its 40 pages about "Special Difficulties", and its 33 models of IRREGULAR verbs, you had wished to have been able to consult it long ago.

Its "INDEX" General “50 CLUES” and Alphabetical will make searching EASY.

The INDEX entitled “50 STEPS” is for structuring the teaching in 50 progressive steps from minor to greater difficulty.

The information given in the ANNEX about SPAIN will be also very useful for you all.

 “PAST  simple” of  “Mode Subjunctive”

1)    This tense is used to form the “Conditional Sentences – 2nd type”.

2)   Therefore – in  Spanish – this tense is preceded by the conditional word  “SI” (= if).

Si ella APROBASE sus exámenes, iría de vacaciones = If she PASSED her exams, ...

Si él VINIESE a mi fiesta, yo sería feliz = If he CAME to my party, I would feel happy!

Si tú COMIESES mejor, no estarías tan gordo = If you ATE better, you’d not be so fat!

3)   In Spanish, we  have 2 verbal forms to conjugate this tense.

1ª conjugación AMAR
2ª conjugaciónCOMER
3ª conjugación –  VIVIR

Yo               am -  aRa
Tú               am -  aras
Él                am -  ara
Nosotros    am -  áramos
Vosotros    am -  arais
Ellos           am -  aran
Yo              com -  ieRa
Tú              com -  ieras
 Él               com - iera
 Nosotros    com - iéramos
 Vosotros    com - ierais
 Ellos          com - ieran
  Yo               viv - ieRa
  Tú               viv - ieras
  Él                viv - iera
 Nosotros     viv -  iéramos
 Vosotros     viv -  ierais
 Ellos           viv  - ieran

Yo               am -  aSe
Tú               am -  ases
Él                am -  ase
Nosotros    am -  ásemos
Vosotros    am -  aseis
Ellos           am -  asen
 Yo             com -  ieSe
Tú              com -  ieses
 Él              com -  iese
Nosotros    com - iésemos
Vosotros    com -  ieseis
 Ellos          com - iesen
  Yo               viv - ieSe
  Tú               viv - ieses
  Él                viv - iese
 Nosotros     viv -  iésemos
 Vosotros     viv -  ieseis
 Ellos           viv  - iesen

SER =  Yo fuera – tú fueras – él fuera  //  nos. fueramos –  vos. fuerais –   ellos fueran
fuese      fueses      fuese   //           fuesemos           fueseis              fuesen

ESTAR =  estuviera – estuvieras – estuviera / estuviéramos –  estuvierais – estuvieran
                 estuviese – estuviese – estuviese / estuviésemos – estuvieseis - estuviesen

HABER = Yo hubiera – tú hubieras – él hubiera  //  hubiéramos – hubierais – hubieran.
hubiese        hubieses      hubiese //  hubiésemos – hubieseis – hubiesen.

4)  Better is to use the “second form”:-  aSe – aSes – aSe … //  ieSe – ieSes – ieSe …

In order not to get confused with the FUTURE simple of SUBJUNCTIVE – to be explained next page - because the “endings” of future use the letter “R”.
